Three hours east of Seattle, deep into the Enchantments, lies an indescribably blue glacial lake surrounded by mountains. This is Colchuck Lake. One of the most rewarding hikes in all of the Pacific Northwest, backpackers are met with awe-inspiring views and complete and total silence. Best traversed on weekdays or shoulder season weekends, the lake can be reached in about four hours of brisk walking and steep hiking. Pack a lunch and soak in the magic. It will be a picnic to remember and you will daydream about it months later as I am right now.
